Ten Women Honoured On Rue De La Chapelle - Paris

Ten Women Honoured On Rue De La Chapelle - Paris

During the 2024 Paris Olympics, ten gilded statues were erected in honour of women who have made significant contributions to French history in the fields of science, the arts, literature, politics and sport. The monumental statues appeared alongside the River Seine, at the foot of the Pont Alexandre III bridge, while Axelle Saint-Cirel sang La Marseillaise from the roof of the Grand Palais. Entitled “Sororité” (Sisterhood), the spectacle was conceived by Thomas Jolly as a tribute to the feminist movement. A few days before the first anniversary of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, the statues will be installed along Boulevard de la Chapelle. The first two have already been installed in this renovated district. Gisèle Halimi and Christine de Pizan were the first to be installed on the boulevard, in Paris, France, on July 20, 2025.
